September 21th, 2011

September 11, 2011 marked the 10 year anniversary since extremists crashed planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. I decided to go by myself to Ground Zero that morning where the memorial was taking place. Getting off the subway, all you saw was police every few steps. Every exit was blocked off except for one, and once I took the steps up to the street, there were even more police. Barriers took over the street and sidewalk. Walking through a security checkpoint similar to those at the airports, I was able to walk up 40 feet from “Ground Zero.” I was in the first row, leaning against the barrier.

Before it started, the presidential motorcade drove my 30 feet in front of me and I watched President Obama wave as “The Beast” entered the site. The entire memorial was broadcasted on huge screens on every street. As it started, you felt the sadness and pain that was felt that day 10 years ago. As 2,983 names were read and many stories told, you couldn’t help but get emotional. In that exact spot we were standing, almost 3,000 people died. At each of the moments of silents, bells rung in the eerily quiet streets of NY, marking the exact moment when the planes hit and when the towers collapsed.

dipshit.
